So it’s now nearly two weeks since I got back from my Maritimes trip and as it’s crystalized in my mind and i’ve written it down, it’s become more enjoyable. This is obviously as I’ve started to forget the crap.

The GPS for example was a bit of a mixed bag. While I’ve used it in the rain before, that soaking seemed to be too much for it. To it’s credit, it has basically recovered and works just fine now. Toward the end, it lost reception a few too many times, but ever since, in the car, it seems just the same unit as it’s ever been. I’d have to say it worked as designed as it didn’t actually say waterproof…

The video camera was a complete bust. Playing around with it since though, I’ve discovered that the recorder, the archos 504, is basically faulty and seems to overheat. A replacement should be here soon…

My gear was flawless. Well, almost. My Sidi Corsa boots are superbly comfortable and despite the soaking, still supple and familiar. If only the didn’t squeak when I walked. Full marks have to go to the Teknic two piece waterproof suit too. While I wasn’t in the rain a long time (maybe 90 minutes all told) it was lashing down at one point but I remained completely dry inside. Well, maybe the collar could use a little work as the velcro doesn’t hold a decent seal but it’s nothing I can’t fix myself.

The teknik leathers were great too. I’ve worn them now for two solid years. The little weight i have lost has worked wonders for their fit and they remain both confidence inspiring and non-restrictive on the bike.

My Shoei 1000 lid however doesn’t rate so highly. Fitted with their reflective visor, misting was a constant problem. Switching to my trusted black visor improved matters considerably. I also have a suspicion that the noise protection isn’t that great either, but I’ve nothing I can really compare it to. Maybe I need to accidentally drop it so that I can buy a new one to compare?

And that just leaves the Daytona itself. For someone myself, the word is crippling. Even now, my arms ache but they are improving. I certainly wouldn’t have wanted to ride anything else though. The Daytona performs beautifully with superb feedback and handling in all conditions, something good to know on some of the NS roads. The Metzeler rubber seemed no less useful that the Pirellis it came equipped with and are supposed to last longer. Only time will tell that.

So now I am back in Toronto, I managed to get around to washing the bike the other day. Boy, was it filthy but I was pleased to see a large number of mosquitoes in my intake grill. I hope they came from the Tatamagouche area…
