The Best Motorcycles for Dad On Father's Day

Motorcycling is a manly endeavour and nothing says happy Father's Day more than a son who buys his favorite dad a bike.

In the spirit of Father's Day, my list of "The Best Starter Motorcycles for Dad" was created, but I felt the first list left out some of the coolest, iconic, practical, and respect motorcycles and it was just an injustice.

So, the list parameters were revised with a focus on newer bikes. In no particular order, here it is. I don't apologize for motorcycles that you feel should have been added or left off. If you don't like it, tough. And Happy Father's Day.

The Paid For Your College Education Dad

Do I really have to say why the 2014 BMW F800 GS is on this list? The very popular adventure touring bike is the iconic adventure machine and for 2014 it comes with a huge 6.3 gallon fuel tank so dad can go far and wide. Dad will love this bikes' practicality, versatility and the fact that it will take him where the wife can't follow.

The New Tricks Dad

The Tiger is for the dad who can learn new tricks. The Tiger Explore XC aims to beat BMW and their notorious GS series bikes at their own game. It has rugged good looks, which can be likened to dad's strong jaw line, which ultimately led to offspring, and is powered by the 1215cc engine that gives it tons of gusto. Dad will have to defend his choice to his adventure rider pals at first, but that's okay, it'll make him stronger.

The First Time Rider, Mid-Life Crisis Dad

The Honda CTX will help the new to motorcycling dad who is maybe going through a mid-life crisis. It is a motorcycle so it allows dad to rebel and do something that's just about him. But the CTX is also a new genre of motorcycle, so dad won't have to worry about which type of biker he wants to be. Dad can also get the Dual-Clutch Transmission (basically an automatic) if he's too weary or too lazy to change gears.

The My Son's Come Into A Lot Of Money Dad

The Diavel Strada may optimise your dad. It's a bit fat around the middle but when he wants to go fast, there's no lag. It falls into the new and innovative category of this list and it is for the biker dad that has worked hard and wants something to reflect that. The Diavel Strada adds versatility to the Diavel - it basically means "touring". About the most modern thing your dad's likely to possess, he's feel respected riding this genre bending motorcycle.

The Econo, Firecracker Dad

If dad is into sport bikes then there are tons of great options, new and used, to make him happy. But hey, times are tough dad, we get it, you had to sell your litre bike. We want you riding a fast bike again so without a second thought, if you want to buy dad a sport bike and you're on a budget, get this firecracker of a bike. The Ninja is fuel injected, has a slipper clutch and has optional ABS.

A Gift You Can Borrow From Dad

Get a GSX-R 750 of any year and dad will be ripen' the asphalt in a classic sport bike that took the world by storm at its launch. Like your dad, the GXS-R has been around the block, but it's still got some moves. This just happens to be the best bike for you to let off some steam but you might want to take it to the racetrack. Or, you'll be calling dad to pick you up after they impound you and his bike for excessive, but thrilling speeds.

If Arnold Is Your Dad

Night cruises through the city are best done on this bike. When dad goes out for that night ride, rolling around on a blacked out K1300 will give him goose pimples he'll surely deny (cause he's too cool to admit that). The K1300r might be forgotten with all the new bikes out there but this road warrior still turns heads. Dad: make sure you gear out in all black too.

The Stylish Dad

The dad that rides the Griso knows a thing or too about style; he knows his history and is likely a sharp dresser. Maybe he lives in SOHO or Milano. The Griso is the most unique bike to leave the Moto Guzzi factory and it is full of elegant design details that make it a work of art. A bike for the cultured father.

The Man Of The House Dad

If it's a Harley, it's a bike for dad. I chose the Fat Boy because it's the model that brought Harley Davidson back to the top after periods of questionable reliability and build quality. Its classic styling, comfortable ergonomics and wartime inspired name made it a hit. Dad, you're the man of the house but if you have a Harley you're THE man.

The Get Back In The Spirit Dad

I chose the Vaquero as the big bagger motorcycle for dad because of Kawasaki's reliability, features and the of course because of its looks. The Vaquero is customizable, a commuter and the long distance tourer. Dad, this is the upgrade to the motorcycle you and the misses used to tour around on in your wild and free days.

The Tough On The Outside Dad

Sometimes dad's are mean. They scare, make the hard calls and rain on the fun parade. For those dads there's the Thunderbird Storm. This cruiser comes in black and more black. Its twin headlights keep a watchful eye and it is a no nonsense motorcycle with a super smooth and reliable transmission. It's a comfortable, mean bike you can count on. Just like you can count on dad to tell you to dismantle your pillow fort.

That's the list. Dad, what did I miss?

Happy Fathers Day!

If my dad was alive today, he'd be so happy to see me riding a motorcycle. Definitely the "Tough On The Outside Dad". I wish we could have ridden together.
