Talimena National Scenic Byway—Ouachita National Forest Ride From Talihina, OK to Mena, AR

Talimena National Scenic Byway—also known as Talimena Drive—travels through the Ouachita National Forest, making its way along the highest peaks of the Winding Stair Mountains. The motorcycle route is jam-packed with twisting turns, elevation changes and sweepers, combined with unbelievably beautiful scenery.

The motorcycle route takes you from Talihina, Oklahoma to the city of Mena in Arkansas, and travels eastbound along Oklahoma State Highway 1 and Arkansas Highway 88. Talimena Drive features a great set of twisties for around 50 miles and the views at the top of the mountains are just spectacular, making this ride one of the best motorcycle roads in the region.

Some of the highlights along the route—besides from the many astounding overlooks—to consider visiting include the Talimena State Park, just a few miles East of Talihina on Hwy 1; Queen Wilhelmina State Park; and the Winding Stair Mountain National Recreation Area.The roads are in good condition but you’ll find occasional potholes along the road; make sure to gas up before starting your trip as there are no gas stations along the road.
