The Hardknott Pass is often referred to as one of Great Britain’s most challenging and steepest motorcycle route. The old Roman road, currently known as the Hardknott pass, was built in the 2nd century by the Romans, to link their coastal fort at Ravenglass with their garrisons at Ambleside and Kendal.

At some point of the route you'll be riding at nearly 1,290 feet and albeit not a road for the inexperienced rider, the Hardknott Pass is certainly a motorcycle route that has to be tried by everyone at least once in their lifetime.

The road is located between Eskdale and Little Langdale in the Lake District National Park—a famous destination due to its pristine lakes, dense forests and imposing mountains.

To get to the pass, head eastbound from highway A595 and towards Eskdale; you'll be riding through through Eskdale Green and Beckfoot, and soon you'll reach the base of the climb. Keep going east along the Hardknott Pass' steep ascents and descents until you get to Little Langdale, where you'll find the end of the route.

@eugenia11 sadly not. The lake district was always either horribly busy or horrible weather when I lived there. As such, I tended to head south to the peak district.

I also wasn't so adventurous then either.
