Wild Motorcycle Ride in New Mexico: From Ruidoso to Alamogordo Via NM 244 and US 82

Riding in New Mexico is a combination of nature that rarely disappoints the motorcycle rider. Start the ride at SR 244 and US 82 - it's the perfect combination of mountain views, sweet twisting roads and lots of elevation changes. There's not much traffic and the roads are in good condition.

This scenic motorcycle ride will take you from Ruidoso, a resort town located in the Sierra Blanca mountain range of south-central New Mexico known for its beautiful alpine scenery and mild weather, to Alamogordo. The city of Alamogordo is known for the setting of the Trinity test—the first explosion of an atomic bomb—conducted on the Alamogordo Bombing and Gunnery Range, back in 1945.

Start the ride in Ruidoso. Head south on Route 48 and continue on US 70 for about 11 miles until you reach New Mexico State Route 244, then head to Cloudcroft, a village located in the Lincoln National Forest. From Cloudcroft, continue onto US Route 82 until you get to Alamogordo, where you’ll find the end of the route.
