Althea Racing and Ducati Split
Fresh from a pretty dismal defence of their 2011 World Superbike crown Althea Racing are to separate from Carlos Checa and Ducati for the 2013 season.
Ducati and Althea only barely agreed to terms for the 2012 season ahead of what would have been an embarrassing loss of the 2011 Champion to BMW.  It seems though that with the imminent debut of the Panigale Ducati wanted ever more control and investment from Althea.
This was all too much for Althea Racing boss Genesio Bevillacqua:-
"The offer from Ducati for 2013 is not much different from that for this year," said the Italian. "For months, the contract was taken away, because of the takeover by Audi." Â The team boss continued: "I wanted to lay the foundation to make it to the team in the future better. Ducati and Audi but have no interest in investing. "
Althea will continue with another brand of motorcycle for rising star Davide Giugliano, the details of which will likely be announced next week.
Carlos Checa who remains directly contracted to Ducati will be riding the new Ducati 1199 Panigale Superbike next season but the question is with which team?
