ESR and a RAM Mount

Acacia Ridge, 04, Australia

I'm an Android user and have only just started using the ESR app - so I'm still learning, and the app is still in it's early stages for Android. I've been keen to get the app on my phone and make use of it since I first learned of what was on offer, - including CrashLight (as I often ride alone and find the feature very appealing).

So far, I've only ridden about 9km - to and from work, so my experience with the app is only superficial. While I like what I see, I think there's definitely room for improvement - especially when it comes to utalising the mobile phone.

As I understand it, to get accurate lean data the phone needs to be held in portrait configuration, and attached to the body (like a breast pocket). I use my phone as a GPS unit, held on my bars with a RAM Mount, so I'd love to see more flexibility there.

Perhaps, when 'Starting a Ride' the app can ask to have the current position configured as the Default Standing at Rest. Allowing the phone to not be upright and held against the body, but to be used as a GPS. It seems to make more sense to me when it comes to showing other riders on a group ride with you.

Should a rider in a group make a wrong turn, or even have to stop for a toilet break - it would be handy to get that info on screen while riding, rather than having to pull over, get the phone out and open up the app.

So far, that's the only feature on my 'wish list'.

@VRSCDX  I've since done a little reading about how the app works - with regards to capturing Lean Angle and have spoken with one of the ESR Dev's (Alex), and it seams the primary concern is the phone being 'fixed' and not rattling around loose in a pack.  So portrait orientation isn't essential.  The suggestion for having the phone on you is more so for CrashLight.

I like the idea of auto portrait or landscape mode. would work better for me as well when the iPhone is on my bar mount.
