Thrill over Function

England, United Kingdom

The "racetrack" angle

The "racetrack" angle

When I tell my non biker friends I own a fireblade, the first response is usually " How are you not dead yet! " followed swiftly by " Superbikes are so dangero....... yada yada yada ".

For those in the know, it's a different story. Awe and envy top that conversation! ( which is 50% of why I love the bike )

But almost everyone says the same thing when I tell them that my beloved fireblade is my daily commute.....

"How can you ride that everyday?"

"Isn't it painfull?"

"That's meant for the track, not the road"

Now, I agree to a certain extent that superbikes are designed for one thing, and one thing only. Racing!

But I am one of many riders that will sacrifice the comforts of a tourer, cruiser or some such couch like motorbike, for the ultimately mind blowing experience that comes with owning, and commuting on a superbike.

Work can be tedious, and starting my day with the earth moving rumble splutter of my twin arrow cans,

the lean angle hooking round the many roundabouts on my way to work, and the excitement of whipping that throttle just for a split second to flank the near dead zombified car commuters!

I get to work on a Monday morning with a grin and a skip in my step, and that, is definitely worth the sacrifice!

I wouldn't give up my blade for anything. I have owned it for a year now, which reminds me! I need to get a cake and a card, as it's the first anniversary of what will be a long and happy relationship with my Superbike! Thrill will ALWAYS win over function for me.....

..... How about you?
