Sounds from the 'new' Indian Motorcycle

While we were busy hustling away at the Toronto Motorcycle Show last week, Indian Motorcycles were making noise down at the California International Motorcycle Show in Long Beach.

Instead of the usual silhouette, or random design detail, Polaris (the owners of the Indian brand since 2011), gave show goers a taste of a soon to be reborn Indian Motorcycle through an audio clip of the new bike's powerplant.

The robust, crackling sound suggests the revitalized American brand may just have a serious one-two punch for Harley-Davidson --or at least that's what I gathered from the teaser.

We get an intro to this clip courtesy of Mike Wolfe from the popular History Television series American Pickers. Seems Polaris has already scouted out their celebrity support for the rebirth of Indian Motorcycles.

There's been so many attempts to resurrect Indian, i've lost count. While it's good to see the old marques return, it's usually little more than a marketing gimmick and in that vein, this one looks to be using nostalgia to sell a vastly overpriced motorcycle. if the numbers are correct (@marina quotes $37k there are models at $27k), it's too rich for me and I suspect most other riders.

OK so I guess they're launching an all new bike at Daytona Bike week summer of 2013. You've gotta love Indian, but since purchased by Polaris not much has been going on. In Long Beach this last weekend, the 2013 Indian Chief Vintage Final Edition was launched. Polaris will do a limited run of these bikes for an MSRP of $37,000- 39,000. Here's what you get for that price "The 2013 Indian Chief Final Edition comes fully loaded with the World's Fair-inspired paint scheme of Indian Red, Thunder Black, and Gold Pinstripe; auxiliary driving lamps; black leather solo seat with included detachable passenger seat; windshield; black leather saddlebags; chrome grab rail; leather fringe; engine guards; and chrome fender tips. Powered by the PowerPlus 105ci engine, this historic 2013 model will be manufactured in an extremely limited run and wears a custom-designed, numbered emblem on the frame to commemorate the brand's historic achievements." -I'd get the Gold Pinstripe.
