- Route

Estes Park Co. To Breckenridge Co.

Distance: 219.3 Km / 136.7 Mi Duration: 03:26:16

I was going to call this a fall colors ride. But with this elevation and how late in the year it is most of the trees up here have already dropped their leaves
It doesn't really matter. I have a long weekend, the weather is great and I'm on the bike. Everything else is just added bonus. This route takes you through Rocky Mountain National Park. A nice ride. But usually a lot of traffic. That's OK though. You still get to see the scenery.

As you continue through the park you climb pretty high. Just over 12,000 feet as you go over Hwy 34, Trail Ridge Road. You get quite a view from the top.

After you pass through the park you come to Grand Lake and then Granby. You can get gas either place.

Nice view at Granby Lake

At Granby we take a turn on Hwy 40 to Kremmling. Another nice road here in Colorado.

At Kremmling we catch Hwy 9 toward Silverthorn and Breckenridge. You go through some great views on this road as well.

At Silverthorn you need to hop on I 70 west a bit to catch 9 again to get to Breckenridge. This is a very nice little ride no matter the season. Well, except the dead of winter. Hwy 34 over the pass through the park gets closed every year. They try and have it open by Memorial Day each year. In 2015 they missed that because of some late snows. Happy riding all.
