Honda CBR500R 2016 - World first look at AIMExpo

Orlando, Florida, United States

Honda provided the world with the first look at their updated-for-2016 CBR500R at AIMExpo today.

The most noticeable update is a more pointy aspect to the fairing. It gives the 500 a more aggressive look, but it’s also intended to improve airflow around the rider and thus improve rider comfort.

The exhaust, too, is also shorter and made lighter. It’s now also a dual chamber design with some carefully tapped holes inside that are designed to provide a more throaty roar as you open the throttle.

The front shocks are also updated and can now be adjusted to accommodate different riders and riding styles.

And lastly, the levers are also now adjustable. This may sound like a small detail, but then the purpose of the bike is attracting new riders and making them feel comfortable, it’s a welcome addition.

Aside from a small weight reduction, the rest of the bike remains essentially unchanged. This is good as the old CBR500R was already a great bike, whether you’re a new rider looking to build confidence, or a more jaded long-termer like me who is looking for a more simple (and cheap) second bike that oozes fun.
