Doing The Miles But Missing The Ride

Apex, Nc, United States

“Doing The Miles But Missing The Ride”

Do you ever feel like you are on the go all the time? Even on your motorcycle does it seem like you are in a hurry or just trying to get to your destination? Do you watch the clock? Do you speed unnecessarily to get to where want to be?

In today’s society and world of work, business, family, errands and even riding our bikes it seems like I get caught up in the so called rat race and forget or I take for granted that I’m on the most awesome way to travel in the world… that’s right my motorcycle.

I use my bike for a lot of things like commuting to work, running errands, training at MotoMark1, www.motomark1.com

Do we just do the miles and miss “The Ride” altogether? I hope not. Why did we buy our bikes to start with? What motivated us to get a motorcycle? Why do we want to be a part of this lifestyle or brotherhood? I’ll tell you why, it’s the freedom we get when we have the breeze on our knees and the wind through our hair (if we have any left). It’s a sense of freedom that only comes when we are on our bikes and we go for a ride for the right reasons and that is the enjoyment of “The Ride”.

Why do we enjoy the twisties so much? The lean angle of the bike, the G forces going into the corner, the feeling of the bike sticking like glue as if it could never break loose. It’s the excitement of rolling on the throttle with smooth throttle control as the engine roars forward with ignitable gasoline that can explode between your legs, spark plugs with fire that causes a combustible thrust, 5 or 6 forward gears to keep you going forward with momentum that can not be felt anywhere but on a motorcycle. It’s the downshift to a lower gear that causes the engine to rev up, maybe break a little traction with a chirp in the tire as it forces you to squeeze your knees so you don’t slide off the front of the bike or over it because the assertive yet smooth braking is just as fun and almost the same adrenaline rush as the acceleration when done right. It’s the feeling of independence when its me on the open road or with my friends thundering down the straight away as we charge toward the next curve in unison one after the other yet smooth as glass staying safe and having maximum control over the raw horsepower of my iron chariot. It’s the balance, coordination, the exhilaration, execution of excellence as you maneuver the bike through technical yet challenging curves and long flowing sweeper turns with miles of continuous black ribbon smooth highway with scenery that makes you proud to own a motorcycle!! It’s the most fun you can have with your clothes on!!! This is just a few reasons why we ride “The Ride”.

Great moment of clarity. I used to ride with some guys that were ONLY interested in the speed and the turns. As for me - I like to go fast and lean deep - I have even been known to go back in the opposite direction just for the experience - only have to turn back around to return towards my destination.

But I also like to take the time and experience the places I am visiting. I never understood blazing through for the sake of counting miles. I like to see the surroundings - meet the people and learn about where I am traveling. I love being on two wheels - it is absolutely the best way to travel - but it is also nice to park the bike and experience the wonderful places those two wheels can take us.
