Calgary-based Youtube motovlogger Eliot Hayward, more popularly known as "snowcatxx87", is recovering in hospital in Santa Clarita, CA with a broken elbow, a torn rotator cuff and severe road rash after a high-speed skateboard accident which occurred on Friday, November 13th while on vacation. Hayward recently rode his 2015 Ducati Hypermotard 821 from Canada down to the Los Angeles area to spend time with friends including fellow motovlogger "Bash041".

"It's extremely embarrassing but I am thankful it was not motorcycle related" says Hayward on a GoFundMe page set up to raise money for his recovery.

Hayward was riding a ripstick, a type of skateboard with two rollerblade wheels, when the incident happened. He was racing fellow motovloggers Bash041 and Rev Bomb, who were riding kick scooters, down a suburban Los Angeles county hill at night wearing only jeans and a t-shirt when he lost control and crashed.

Though his primary care will be covered by travel health insurance, after care including physiotherapy, are not part of his policy.

The GoFundMe campaign quickly reached it's $5000 bid, and currently sits at total donations of $6,145.

Hayward plans to spend the next two months recovering in the Los Angeles area.

Hayward's self-produced Youtube channel "snowcatxx87" has grown dramatically over the past few months currently reaching over 367,000 subscribers making it the second most popular motorcycle channel worldwide on the streaming service. His channel's 246 videos have collectively generated over 41 million views since it was launched in 2006.

Hayward calls himself a "professional hater", and his often profanity-laced videos have generated some controversy as they document his ongoing crusade on the streets of Calgary as he documents fellow road users who do not obey regulations and good driving etiquette.

Hayward told the Calgary Sun “I’m the type of person who isn’t afraid to make a point — careless people cause accidents, cost insurance companies money, cost taxpayers money — no one tells them how it is."

Some have accused Hayward of hypocrisy as he has at times documented his own careless behaviour including close calls with a pedestrian, obvious speeding and performing power wheelies in city streets. In late 2012 he was charged by Calgary police with careless driving based on his Youtube videos. It is unclear whether his case ever proceeded to trial.

Motovlogging, or motorcycle-based video blogging, has massively increased in popularity over the past few of years as wearable cameras like the GoPro have made it possible for riders to record continuously and make live-comments via in-helmet microphones. Several of the top Youtube channels dedicated to motorcycling are currently independently-produced motovlogs.

Hey @snowcatxx87 good to hear you left the hospital. Next time you'll need your leathers on the skateboard.
