Any way you slide it, ice racing makes you a better street and track rider because you learn to move comfortably within variable amounts of traction. If you try it, here's what you'll learn:

  • Looking through turns even when traction is breaking loose beneath you
  • Experiencing how much throttle control affects traction
  • Understanding the importance of proper body position for off-road riding
  • Learning to relax even when you’re on the edge of control
  • Feeling more and more comfortable “backing it in”

For more ice racing check out the AMA Ice Racing Grand Championship which features classes for riders from 4 years old to 50-plus competing on bikes that range from lightly modified off-road machines to full-on, purpose-built ice racers.

Normally, the competition takes place at the Pontiac Lake Recreation Area in Waterford, Michigan but unfortunately due to warm temperatures organizers just announced the championship will be postponed and will not take place February 13 and 14th, 2016.

Have studded tires, will ride on ice.
