This route along the southern shore of Lake Como offers amazing twisty roads and breathtaking scenery. It is 73.9 km (45.9 mi), and can be completed in less than 2 hours, subject to your riding style.

Lake Como is renown for its Lakeside Villas including the Villa Del Belbianello, a famous filming location for movies such as Star Wars Episode II, James Bond Casino Royale, and Oceans Twelve. (A search on Google for ‟Lake Como Villas” will provide you with a host of stunning images.)

Our starting location is a commune located south of Lake Como with a population of 17,000 people. Erba is 40 km (25 mi) North of Milan and is easily accessible by taking SS36 and SS342 North. Some historical attractions to see in this community include a WWI Memorial, and the 11th Century Bell Tower of the Church of St. Euphemia. For more information on what to see, where to eat and sleep in Erba see: http://comune.erba.co.it

Take Via XXV Aprile, Via Valassina, and SP41 for 8.7 km (5.4 mi), to arrive at Asso, a commune with a population of 3,500.

Here you'll find significant historical structures including the Main church of Saint John the Baptist built between 1641-1675, a 12th century castle with the tower still standing, and several old bridges that pass over the river Lambro.

From Asso proceed to Onno, riding Northbound on SP41, Via XXV Aprile, Via Roma, Via Vittorio Veneto and Via Milano for 8.7 km (5.4 mi). The constant road changes in this section can be challenging to navigate, but the tasty hairpin configurations, and remarkable views of Lake Como make it more than worth the effort.

From Onno continue north on SS583 to Bellagio. The entire 9.5 km (5.9 mi) section winds its way along the lake, presenting incredible scenic views.

Bellagio is a commune of 3,000 people located on a peninsula that separates the two Southern arms of Lake Como. Majestic views of The Alps can be seen in the distance. Historically Bellagio's location was famous, and in early Roman times it was often called the pearl of Lake Como. Letters from Pliny the Younger, known for his many hundreds of surviving writings dating back to the 1st Century AD, describe the time he spent in his Bellagio Villa. For more information on what to see, where to eat and sleep in Bellagio see: http://comune.bellagio.co.it

From Bellagio continue southwest to Nesso on the SS583 for 14.7 km (9.1 mi). Using caution in riding this leg of the route is advised since the road is narrow and twisting, and the views are distractingly spectacular. The approach of Nesso marks the end of the lake views and the beginning of zigzagging configurations.

Nesso is a commune consisting of 1,300 people, and is located on the southwestern shore of Lake Como. It is situated on the side of a mountain on the SP44. For more information on what to see, where to eat and sleep in Nesso see: http://commune.nesso.co.it

From Nesso we head back to Asso riding east for 23.3 km (14.5 mi) on SP44 and then on the Via Monti di Sera, Via per Bellagio, Via Circonvallazione and Via XXV Aprile. The road between Nesso and Asso on SP44 begins with a zigzagging ascent before it carves its way east along the mountains, offering over 25 Hairpin turns.

Arriving back in Asso, we ride south to Erba for 8.9 km (5.5 mi) along the SP41, and SP40, thus concluding our trip.

If you are in search of unbelievably twisty roads, coupled with sensational scenery, this is one route that doesn't disappoint.

Enjoy the ride! EatSleepRIDE

Another place I've ridden. The weather was nowhere near that nice, but it truly is an awesome place for bikes.

Beautiful scenery. The ride must be awesome.
