My New Ride. Enter, the Duc!

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

My brand new Hyper.

My brand new Hyper.

Sometimes even bike reviewers need their own bike. I have had the same BMW F650GS since I began riding four years ago, and I still love it. But sometimes the universe tells you it is time for a change.

She looks like trouble, no?

She looks like trouble, no?

It's a long and boring story that I may yet tell one day, but essentially I was offered a deal on a brand new 2015 Ducati Hypermotard that I just couldn't refuse. And ironically it had nothing to do with my role at EatSleepRIDE.

Ain't she sexy 🙂

@marina It's funny, the Hyperstrada -- the touring version of the Hypermotard -- was the first bike I ever really rode apart from my own and the bike I had for my training course. Like the Hypermotard, the Hyperstrada seating position is high and forward (you can see the front tire) and  I found it felt strange and a bit disconcerting.

Later I tried the MV Agusta Rivale (the Stradale without the luggage) and was again not thrilled with the form factor as it is very similar to the Duc.

This spring I tried out the new Hypermotard 939 at a Ducati demo day and I had a lot of fun on it! Maybe after getting a lot more experience on different bikes I adapted more rapidly. The Hyper is so light and powerful and it sounds amazing. Of course I am still breaking it in, so I haven't even begun to discover the mid to high range of its power 🙂

Will post a full review once I get a couple thousand kms on her and I can open her up.

She is so sexy!  And as if you didn't know, this is one of my absolute favourite bikes. Ducati doesn't promote it because from what I understand it was created on a whim. Here's a little excerpt from my review of the bike:

"The Hyperstrada is a kind of ‘crossover’ between the Motocross world and that of Touring but in a street bike. Maybe it’s targeted at motocross racers who want to hit the street, but I’ve never ridden motocross and this was hands down, my favourite bike to ride.

I’ve heard journalists call the Hyperstrada a ‘weird bike’. There’s nothing really like it save the unexpected 2015 MV Agusta Stradale 800cc which was inspired by the Ducati Hyperstrada." Read More
