Are motorcyclists vulnerable road users? City of Toronto says you are not!

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

The United Nations a few years ago declared that pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists needed special attention as they were vulnerable road users. This view has been accepted for decades by Transport Canada, the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Association, our national traffic research foundation T.I.R.F., and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. However, Toronto City Council has issued a multi year Road Safety Plan highlighting vulnerable road users naming only pedestrians and cyclists. Statistics show that there is a major problem for motorcyclists being involved in fatal collisions many of which caused by cars turning left.

Council needs to hear from riders, especially Toronto motorcyclists to support efforts to reduce crashes killing 'bikers.

This is unacceptable!  ESR has started the process with the Ministry of Transport and City Council to include motorcyclists as vulnerable road users and have an opportunity to meet with the decision makers. Any volunteers?
