Riding New Zealand

As Burt Munro would say:  "New Zealand. Aotearoa, the Land of the Long White Cloud, The home of the Kiwi Bird".

We are so much more than that:

New Zealand is my Backyard & Sandpit. We operate a Motorcycle tours & guiding business (Garner's Kiwi Motorcycle Tours & Rentals NZ). We specialise in riding GS (Gravel Surfing) tours as well as motorcycle Hires, Self-guided & Guided scenic tours (sealed roads only). Our Scheduled 8 day Southern or Northern South Island GS tours involve 8 days of riding the South Islands most stunning unsealed & sealed roads. Approximatly 35% of these tours is gravel surfing, the balance is riding New Zealand's reknown winding sealed roads through scenic bush, alpine, rural and coastal routes, with many hidden gems and attractions on-route

Marina, Wildlife. My wife tells me the most dangerous wildlife in New Zealand is the Westcoast male 🙂 🙂 New Zealand has very unique wildlife with no real biting/poisonous animals (No snakes, Crocs or Bears). We are a country of predominantly native birds, with a dinosaur (Tuatara), lizards, moths, spiders, frogs and interesting prehistoric insects (Weta). We only have one mildly poisonous spider (Katapo), which I have never come across in my lifetime & don't know anyone ever bitten by one. All 4 legged animals, ie: Deer, Goats, Pigs, Dogs, Cats, Rats, Opossums, Rabbits, Hares, Stoats etc, have been introduced, and most are classed as noxious animals, unless farmed and available for hunting or are actively trapped by our DOC department(including cats & dogs if found in the wild). We a very agricultural country, farming approx 45 million sheep and 10 million cattle beast(7.5m Dairying & 2.5m consumption), so you will see plenty prairie blondes on your travels

Hi James, New Zealand has very unique Flora & Fauna as well as stunning coastal to Alpine scenery. The tree (Palm) is a Cabbage tree (Ti Kouka/Cordyline australis). Similar to a Flax(Harakeke)bush with a trunk. There is also the Nikau palm which grow predominantly on the northern end of the west coast of the South Island and the North Island. The New Zealand Summer (Mid Spring to mid Autumn) riding season is broadly October to May. Spring and Autumn time. I feel Spring and Autumn are the most picturesque times to visit NZ, with bright vibrant colours, beautiful natural aroma's and snow capping the tops of the mountains. Things do tend to brown off over peak summer (Jan-Feb), this being the period of max sun and min rain. In broad terms we have a 10 day weather pattern, so one can expect 1 day of wet weather in that time. Presently we are in drought conditions, not having had any significant rain over most of NZ since early January this season. Its been a totally fantastic riding season. Mid summer temps are generally in the 20-35C range through the day, dropping down to 15-20C over night. It's mid Autumn presently, with daytime temps 22-28C and dropping down to 12-14C overnight. The South Island is the most scenic area, the Southern Alps running the length of the western side. The people are friendly and we drink our beer cold.

Such a stunningly beautiful country. Shame I didn't get to explore more in the two years I lived there. That's mainly as I couldn't afford a bike at the time. I guess I now have a reason to go back... And @jamesL? The north part is quite tropical.
