First Ride In A Long Time

Miami, United States

My first bike was a 1994 Honda Magna about 12 years ago. Needless to say, it's been that long since I've even ridden anything. After some haggling with my wife, I bit the bullet and I bought my second motorcycle. It's a 2011 Honda VT1300 Fury. I'm not particularly a huge Honda fan or anything, it just happened to have worked out that way.

I took it for a ride tonight around the neighborhood. After riding for just a couple blocks, it all came back to me like I never stopped riding. Accelerating, shifting gears, leaning into turns... It all felt so natural.

Although I've driven the same streets countless times before, it all seemed brand new on a motorcycle. I had forgotten one of the best things about riding is how much more you experience the world around you. It's incredibly liberating!

I took side streets I've never even seen. I visited a close friend to show off the new bike. His pregnant wife wasn't very happy about it, of course. The best part was riding through a local airport. I rode past small planes, helicopters, hangars, and even an airplane museum. It's a feeling I can't seem to begin to describe. It's absolutely euphoric.

Well, it was an amazing Friday night. I'm couldn't be happier about getting another bike and start riding again. I intend to track my future rides in this app and keep sharing my stories and experiences. It feels so damn good to be back.

Cheers.
