Altoona to Ghent via Flight 93 Memorial - Tail of the Dragon

We set off bright eyed and bushy tailed from Altoona and continued South on HWY 219.

Breakfast was had at Little Chef's Diner at 2498 Portage St, Wilmore, PA 15962, United States. The Diner has been at this location for more than 50 years; the food is good and the service friendly.

Just after a super nice stretch of twisties on Route 30, a sign for the Flight 93 Memorial was spotted. We took it. I can tell you this much, the people who built the memorial appreciated motorcycles. The road twists nicely up the hill to the memorial site.

The Flight 93 National Memorial is located at the site of the crash of United Airlines Flight 93, which was hijacked in the September 11 attacks, in Stonycreek Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania.

It took 14 years of planning and development, the Flight 93 National Memorial was opened on September 10, 2015. Strangely, it's hard to know exactly what happened here.

At Bruceton Mills, we turned South from Hwy on to Route 26. Crossing into West Virginia we continued along Hwy 219 finding time for a few photo ops along the way.

The remainder of the day was a mix of slab and backroads to Skyline Resort (127 Lakeview Drive, Ghent, WV 25843, tel +1 304-787-6201). It's a basic motel not a resort; let's just say, we've had better at US$69.
