New England Backroads

Distance: 463.8 Km / 289.0 Mi Duration: 06:41:18

One of the days of my Halifax - Boston - Toronto trip. VT-100 is a great windy road, though summer 2013 will see a lot of construction on bridges, no big deal.

Try Sandy's Books in Rochester for lunch, it's on the east side of VT-100 north of the Irving. Their grilled cheese sandwiches are excellent. And it's a vintage bookstore as well.

Watch for cops on VT-125, it's a biker favourite that it's easy to speed on.

Burlington is an easy day's ride from the GTA, and it's beautiful. Great restaurants, a lot of little breweries making great beer, and good deals on accommodations are easy to find. From there, head for Montpelier and pick up US-2 east to Marshfield, VT where you can cross Groton State Forest on VT-232. Eventually it ends at US 302 which you can then follow to NH-112 which takes you to I-93 and down to Laconia. NH-112 east of I-93 is the Kancamagus Highway, awesome for a little detour if you have the time.

I think I did some of this last summer and I have to agree, VT-100 sure is a nice road. I'm not a fan of maple syrup generally, but there was a stand along there that converted me. Well worth stopping along the roadside

Thank you for adding this great route! Takes you through the Green Mountain national forest which is awesome I hear. We're heading to Laconia for bike craziness. Any suggestions for getting down there?
