Suzuki V-Strom Concept for Donington

Suzuki's V-Strom concept

Suzuki's V-Strom concept

First off lets start of with saying that concept is really the incorrect word for this bike. Suzuki is taking its V-Strom 1000 "concept" to this weekend's WSB round at Donington to further show off the machine before it officially drops the "concept" tag and becomes full on production machine next year.

The release model is expected to be almost identical to the concept except for the paint work. This model revives the name of its predecessor, which disappeared from the line up about four years ago. Packing the legendary TL1000- based engine, although heavily modified to meet modern expectations in terms of emissions and rideability.

The real question is can this bike compete with others in its class? Coming in late to the adventure bike market, which is dominated by the BMW R1200GS and already crowded it is tough to see if Suzukiwill be anything more than a fring player.

This thing is a lot more like the NC700X than the GS bikes.

It looks sharper than the old one, but it will need new 19' wheels to truly compete with a "proper" GS. And yes, it's definitely a stretch calling this a "concept". More like reheated left overs
