The Let’s Get Lost Loop, Nova Scotia

Distance: 382.5 Km / 238.3 Mi Duration: 05:01:38

Rum, Sodomy, the Lash and Severely Twisty Tar, Nova Scotia

New Scotland was seemingly 3D-printed by Mother Nature for riders. With wild country, coasts, mountains, gnarly dualsport trails, a deep maritime tradition, damn hospitable people, old fishing towns with great drinking and overnighting opportunities in towns like Chester and Lunenburg, your only real worry here is psychotic weather.

Our ride research yielded a long route running from Halifax up the northeast coast to Antigonish. And while that looked great, it’s mostly inland. So we thought we’d err on the coastal side. A good segment of this route is exposed to the open Atlantic, so keep the weather and fog gear at the ready. Photo credit: http://www.roadbikemag.com

This can be done in a day or a week, depending how distractible you are.

Where to stop

Make sure you go off-piste and dip into in Peggy’s Cove, Chester, Lunenburg, Riverport and Broad Cove among many other towns.

You may sometimes find you don’t want to leave, and numerous B&B and accommodation options will cater to that want.

On the Fundy side of the drive, there are hundreds of side roads to explore. So take any that look interesting. Chances are you will not find boredom in Nova Scotia.

Interesting Route , too bad it jumps on the 103 Highway between Chester and Liverpool, you miss some of the most interesting roads going that way. I would strongly recommend continuing on the 3 to Mahone Bay or Bridgewater and then travelling to Lahave, Petite Rivere, and finally to Liverpool before heading cross country. There are some magical roads between Chester and Liverpool waiting to be discovered. Maybe even a cable ferry if you decide to go via Lunenburg.
