Triumph Unviels New Street Triple 765 Range
Earlier today Triumph unveiled the newest version of their popular Street Triple line-up with an updated engine as well as a host of other new changes. Three different versions of the new 765cc Triple will be available from Triumph: the Street Triple S, R, and RS. While any rider who's ever ridden one of these knows just how much fun these bikes are, (and how much they jeopardize your license) the bike's appearance has always been somewhat controversial, keeping would-be buyers such as myself deterred from purchasing one. With an updated front end, head light assembly, dash and front intake, the newest Street Triple has a much more "finished" look which is sure to attract the previously reticent.
This latest offering from the British motorcycle powerhouse is impressive for a myriad of reasons. Triumph has taken a beloved model, upped the engine displacement, improved the aesthetics, added a host of new features, even bringing down the weight slightly from the previous model, all without driving up the price by a noticeable amount. (They start at $9,900 for the S spec).
The launch for this impressive new line-up took place in London Tuesday January 10th, 2017 and can be viewed below. The video features British racing legend, seven-time world-champion and one time TT lap record holder; Carl Fogarty riding and discussing the RS model.
It goes without saying that an immense amount of development went into the new 765cc engine. The torquey in-line three is what undoubtedly has made these machines so popular so with a new overhauled version, getting the power plant right was obviously crucial. In addition to it powering the new Street Triple, Triumph has began talks of using the new 765cc engine as the standard power plant for Moto2 bikes as Honda (the current supplier) begins to phase out their CBR600RR line, which is what currently powers the Moto2 machines. As a fan of the fully faired race replica, I'd love to see a new Daytona 765.
The Street Triple S
All three of the new models are powered by the new 765cc in-line three engine, however each spec's power plant has been tuned differently. The base model of the three is the S which puts down 111 peak horsepower at 11,250RPMs. Unlike the R and RS models, it has an LCD screen like the previous generation but it does still come standard with ABS, ride-by-wire-throttle, adjustable traction control, different riding modes including rain, 41mm Showa separate function inverted fork up front and Showa shock adjustable for preload in the back. Triumph claims that the S model clocks in at only 366lbs (dry). Even the base model is guaranteed to be quite the holligan bike.
The Street Triple R
The R spec puts down 116 horsepower at 12,000RPMs, comes with ABS that can be turned off, slip-and-assist clutch, upgraded fully adjustable Showa suspension both front and rear and additional riding modes, some of which are programmable. In addition to those upgrades over the base model, the R spec also gets a handful of trick aesthetic upgrades such as its full color TFT display, different color treatments, classy seat stitching, and self canceling turn signals.
The Street Triple RS
The RS spec is the track-oriented and track-ready version of the latest Street Triple. The most powerful of the three versions, the RS puts down 121 horsepower at 11,700RPMs. It comes standard with a fully adjustable Öhlins rear shock, quickshifter, lap timer and an additional riding mode developed for track use. Another subtle addition that's not found on the R and S models is the RS's bellypan fairing, giving it a more aggressive, sport-oriented appearance. Lastly, a passenger seat is included with the bike as well as a single seat cowl too.
