Why Hunter S. Thompson would have used the EatSleepRIDE Motorcycles App

Hunter S. Thompson made a habit of highlighting underground cultures to a mass audience. In the mid 1960's, he was commissioned to write a story, and later a book, on the Hell's Angels, to expose a life of crime and deviance. Needless to say, the Hell's Angels were not amused. Here is a clip of Clifford Clark 'Skip' Workman of the Hell's Angels confronting Hunter S. Thompson on his scathing view.

What Thompson's profile did do was create a more clear separation between biker gangs like the Hell's Angels and general motorcycle enthusiasts. He became somewhat of a motorcycle aficionado after his year spent with the Angel's, and began writing for magazines like Cycle World. Here is an excerpt from his 1995 review of the Ducati 900:

"Not everybody who buys a high-dollar torque-brute yearns to go out in a ball of fire on a public street in L.A. Some of us are decent people who want to stay out of the emergency room, but still blast through neo-gridlock traffic in residential districts whenever we feel like it... For that we need Fine Machinery."

It's nice to know that as much as Thompson loved danger and debauchery, he was a (somewhat) safety-conscious driver. He was also an amazing story-teller to boot, and we are glad he used his skills to tell stories about bikes; turning a regular review into a tragic love letter to a motorcycle.

For these reasons, we think Hunter S. Thompson would have appreciated the EatSleepRIDE App and CRASHLIGHT®. Not because the App could have saved his life or have him a bunch of tools but because he believed in leaving motorcycling better than how he found it.
