Candidate route to Laconia

Distance: 865.2 Km / 539.0 Mi Duration: 10:30:07

So, we're off to Laconia - @marina, @teramuto, @nick303 and I - later this week and we have some challenges in terms of how we get there.

Firstly, we all live in different places - @Nick303 is out west of Toronto, @teramuto is Ottawa while @marina and I are in downtown Toronto.

Next, Marina's not a big fan of the highway, or gruelling 12 hours days (personally, I'd ride straight through if i could)

And Marina's also not a big fan of the highways - then again who wants to drive through New York/Vermont/etc on the highways? It's just not right.

For my money, that means avoiding the i90/401/etc as much as possible and getting into the US as soon as possible.

Personally, I also needed to avoid this crossing as it scared the shit out of me last time I did it.

So, this route is a compromise. We'll leave (somewhat) early - probably 8 or 9am. The 401 becomes a neccessary evil but we'll cross at Ganononque which is usually easy. @Nick303, if you want to overnight at our place, you're more than welcome as it makes the day easier for you.

From there, it's upstate NY and probably Lake Placid for an overnight. @Teramuto, we can either meet you there or in Laconia, or even along the way.

From Placid, it's a reasonably pleasant drive through VT into NH. It's (mostly) the reverse of a route I did late last year.

If any of you have any suggestions, or even want to join us for a pint in/around the placid area, we'd be more than happy for that, too.

@nick303, @teramuto - I love the way @marina says Hurricane Mountain like it might be a bad thing

Too bad that Rochester ferry is dead, it would have saved so much time. I'm not crossing that bridge thank you and interesting thing: Point C looks like we're going through "Hurricane Mountain". Can't wait to see what happens at Laconia Bike Week.

I find that most of the smaller interstates are just fine, two lanes of long sweeping turns etc. Last time I went through NY state it was all on I17 and I loved it. Safe travels !!!
