I came *this* close to buying a Harley yesterday
Harley Davidson Sportster 1000 Hard Tail (1981) - White Laconia, New Hampshire, United States of America
It's confession time - I've never seen the allure of the Harley Davidson. To me, they tend to be big, unwieldy and slow. I know people love them and that's fine. It's just that I like my machines a little more svelte.
To my surprise, as I was wandering around the Broken Spoke Saloon I found myself drawn to this simple looking HD built by Robert from Ol' School Custom Fabrication. It's clearly not an HD from the current range.
HD XL1000 Side View
Built around an Ironhead Sportster XL1000, I guess you could call it a flattracker/off-road bike. Robert told us he used to race Flat-trackers and you can see the love on this bike.
HD XL1000 - Front
You can see the lack of mass from the front view. To me, this screams handling and I can easily see myself tearing around town or even the backwoods on this thing
HD XL1000 - Close Up
From the close up, you can see the detail in the build. The scrambler style pipes are amazing and I dare say sound fantastic.
HD XL1000 - Rear Quarter View
The rear view is no less tempting. Lines are simple and clean and there's nothing extraneous here. Just pure riding. Can you tell I am smitten? The price wasn't too bad either and I'll be checking my bank balance when I get home to see if I can take it.
HD XL1000 - The builder, Robert P. Lations
Robert, the builder, had a number of other bikes on display. He mainly focuses on Bobbers and Choppers, but offers a range of services from hand-fabbed parts, painting /etc. Above all, he seems to have a talent for making anything look special.
