Moraine Lake, Banff National Park

scenic/reststop 622 Moraine Lake Road, Field, Alberta, Canada

You may remember Moraine Lake as the iconic lake pictured on the old Canadian twenty dollar bill issued between 1969 and 1979. This stunning, turquoise, glacial lake is Located right in Banff National Park nestled in the valley of 10 peaks.

The beautiful deep blue water with a backdrop of towering snow-capped mountains is one of the most photographed spots in the Canadian Rockies and possibly in all of Canada. It is know as the Jewel of the Rockies - suitable for anyone's bucket list.

From the parking area, the walk to the lake is short and the reward is great. But for the ambitious, continue the hike up to Sentinel Pass for the "twenty dollar" view. If you're feeling less energetic, there's a lodge with full restaurant, a gift shop and small café to explore.

Moraine Lake Road is only 15 minutes south of Lake Louise. From Hwy 1 take Lake Louise Drive to Moraine Lake Road (Closed Oct to May). In peak Summer, go early in the day or later in the afternoon to avoid the crowds.
