Access denied - dirt riding cut short

Minden Hills, Canada

For all the open space in Ontario, there's not a lot of places dirt bikes are welcome. Most of the trails are "owned" by the snow mobile clubs who actively try and keep us two-wheelers off.

Happily, the trails near me aren't so restricted.

But they were today. We had big storms Friday that have left us without power now for two days. I didn't ride yesterday due to it being a maintenance day, and today, I got to see the damage first hand.

Power lines almost down

Power lines almost down

I initially didn't clue in, mainly as I went the opposite direction. Sure, there was lots of detritus on the trails, but nothing my Tiger couldn't handle, let alone my ktm trailie.

It was a short detour however. Just a couple of km in, there's very large bog I have no desire or intention to ford. I turned around to head back and do my usual loop.

Unfortunately, about five minutes in, I ran across this

The trails are closed for today

The trails are closed for today

It's a little hard to make out, but it's two trees that have come down. The first is just too low to get the bars under, otherwise I would have. The second tree has literally exploded onto the path and completely blocked it.

A brief walk in the woods showed me there were no other paths. At least, not today. The undergrowth was full of logs and looked impassable. I should have tried but I was alone and it's not worth risking getting stranded.

Defeated, I turned back around and repeated my loop, but the desire wasn't there any more. I should have stayed out for a least an hour, but I did just 30 minutes.

Call me lazy if you want, but it's not that warm today and no power means no shower. As such, I'll be washing in the lake again tonight

Nice. Would love to come join you for some cottage riding at some point this summer.

@nick303 - Power came back late Sunday. and I did ride more. I spent an hour doing a short single track loop over and over again. Yesterday, I got out and found the other half of the B104 trail. It's not as technical as my normal loop, but it's longer and links up with others. I'm hoping to get out and explore them later on today/tomorrow and see where they lead.

Damn! Do you have power back yet @alex? Have you been out riding some more?
