Swiss Meat - Capital Ride (Missouri)

Distance: 341.1 Km / 212.6 Mi Duration: 03:58:15

This is one of our go to lazy rides. Starts out fun on Hwy T in St.. Louis/Franklin County then goes lazy along the Lewis and Clark Trail to Swiss and Jefferson City.

Yesterday we had quite the group.

3 Suzuki Burgman 650

1 Honda Reflex 250

1 Yamaha Morphous 250

1 Yahmaha TMax 500

2 VStar 1800

1 FZ 6

1 Something Suzuki 1000 (GSXR?)

1 Suzuki C90 Trike

Last year on this day the temp was 105 degrees, this year the high was 81. Was PERFECT riding weather.

Swiss Meats is located in the Village of Swiss, population 40 (including pets). Swiss Meats has been featured several times on the Food Network channel. It is the mecca of everything meat. It's a fun ride to here across the rolling farmland just south of the Missouri River. The people who work at Swiss are as friendly as all get out. They sample many many types of meat and even have a sampling for groups of their bacon and about 12 of their 75 varieties of brats!

They have a lunch counter for serving almost anything in the store. Yesterday Pete & I had the braunschweiger with lettuce, tomato and onions! YUM-O!! If I had to recommend only one thing it would be the brisket. It is simply amazing.

After getting our meat on, we headed to the capital of Missouri, Jefferson City via Hwy 50. Before interstates, Hwy 50 carried traffic across the center of the US. From Drake to Jefferson City it still maintain highway speeds when not in a town through rolling farmlands and over many rivers and creeks that come off or into the Missouri River.

We are blessed with gorgeous Capital grounds and a very interesting museum, We broke up as a group and each saw what they wanted to see. Since Pete and I have been to the museum inside we opted to see the train landing and the fountains that over look the Missouri River.

Our friend, Steve who lives in Jeff City lead us over to Central Dairy after our Capital visit. Central Dairy is a must stop if you are an ice cream lover. There are about 60 flavors of ice cream, sherbet and yogurt. Ice cream is king here with 48 kinds made right on the premises!

We parted with Steve's company and took the leisurely ride back towards St. Louis on 50. Could not have asked for a better day weather or company wise.

If you get another group together for a ride like this, let me know (if you don't mind). I'd love to join you guys. My name is Andy. I've recently been bitten by the Adventure biking bug and have since purchased a KLR650. Subsequently, a friend of mine was bitten by the same bug. We're just two guys looking for good people to ride with. Thanks!
