A few weeks ago, when shooting the Discovery Channel episode about CrashLight®, we bumped into Officers Harley and Davidson who tuned us into an insider police motorcycle event called The Great Lakes Police Rodeo. The motorcycle training and competition event for civilian police, is free and open to the general public!

To serve and protect - How hard can it be
About 80 to 100 off-duty police from all over North America will be on-hand developing personal riding skills and competing against each other in a series of challenges on police bikes. The 'Partner Ride' and 'Last Rider Standing' challenges look really interesting.
Festivities get started the afternoon of Wednesday, August 7th through Saturday, August 11th in Ottawa, next door to the Courtyard Marriott Hotel at 200, Coventry Road, Ottawa.
Andy Norie, Vice President of the Ontario Association of Police Instructors (OAPI) explains the rodeo as "a type of Top Gun training on track". And it is a serious event. Hard core competitors train all year for the rodeo.
The general public can watch a number of ergonomic defying heats on motorcycles, chat up the police officers who are on hand to "answer any questions" and sit on Harley police bikes as well as a few police issue BMWs and Victorys. If you're lucky, they may even turn the sirens on for you.
