The new naked! First look at Husqvarna's Svartpilen and Vitpilen motorcycles at EICMA 2017

Milano, Lombardia, Italy

Introducing the new Huskys: Svartpilen 401, Vitpilen 401, Vitpilen 701 and the Svartpilen 701, a dreamy scrambler

Husqvarna, the Swedish motorcycle manufacturer just revealed 4 new motorcycles at EICMA 2017, held at Milan, Italy. Three among them are production ready models that will be available for purchase in 2018, while the fourth is a concept that could become a reality in the near future.

The sexy new scrambler is going to turn a lot of heads.

The sexy new scrambler is going to turn a lot of heads.

The first two are the Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401

The Svartpilen is a response to the ever increasing demand for lower capacity scrambler style machines where as the Vitpilen is a retro cafe-racer. These are relatively small motorcycles based on the KTM Duke 390 platform. So the engine is 375cc single-cylinder engine that makes a claimed 43 hp at 9,000 rpm and 27 pound-feet of torque at 7,000 rpm mated to a slick 6 speed transmission.

The frame is a chrome-moly steel-trellis unit that has proven to be very agile on the small Dukes. They also share the same 43mm upside-down forks and mono-shock, the same braking system comprising of a single 320 mm disc and four-piston calliper in front and 230mm disc with a single-piston calliper at the rear and even share the same geometry. All this means that these bikes will be dynamically sounding machines, with plenty of potential.

Finally, a small but good looking cafe-racer.

Where these machines start departing is the looks and ergonomics. The Svartpilen 401, in proper scrambler fashion, sports a proper steel handlebar and comes shod with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires. On the other hand, the cafe-racer style Vitpilen 401 comes equipped with forged aluminum clip-ons and Metzeler Sportec M5, in-line with its sportier intentions. These machines bring some much needed excitement to a class of machines, where only a few quality options are available.

The Vitpilen 701, a class above

The next machine is a from a class above, the Vitpilen 701. As the name suggests, this a cafe-racer styled machine based on the KTM Duke 690. Thus we get a 693cc liquid-cooled single making about 75 hp at 8,500 rpm and 53 pound-feet of torque at 6,750 rpm. This engine is mated to a chrome-moly steel-trellis frame. Husqvarna claims that this frame is laser cut, robot welded, and hydro-formed to meet very high quality standards.

The Vitpilen also gets 43 mm upside courtesy of WP and a linked mono-shock handling suspension duties at the rear. We also get a Bosch developed switchable ABS system, complemented by a Brembo 4 piston callipers clamping on to a 320 mm disc, with rear being a 240 mm unit. The bike is also fitted with the slipper clutch unit from the Duke.

The Svartpilen 701, a dream (concept) scrambler

Finally, we have the Svartpilen 701, a dream scrambler for many among us. This piece of beauty is based on the Vitpilen 701, taking on the established Scramblers for the other brands. This bike unfortunately is still a concept and very few details are know. The bike will share the engine and basic cycle components from its cafe-racer brother. But it will feature an 18 inch wheel instead of 17 inch wheels that are present on the other bikes in the range. We no idea when we could see the bike on the road, but looks like it is a long wait for this one. The Vitpilen 701 can be expected some time in 2018 while the smaller bikes will be out first Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401 will be out first.
