new year new project

Harley-Davidson Other (1984) Santa Ynez, United States

So once again. It’s raining, I’m home drinking a cup of coffee while I browse craiglist. Looking for cheap projects I start looking for rough diamonds. Suddenly an add that says FXRS catches my eye. The add says bike doesn’t run, but motor has compression and transmission is solid. The asking price $3200. I told my self, those FXR bikes are very desirable for their reputation of being the best hands long bike HD has ever made yet. So I spoke to the seller, and stroke a deal. Called my buddy to ask if I could borrow his trailer and headed towards Costa Mesa. The 405 was rough, took me a good 4 hours to get there, but I was happy knowing I had an FXR in my possession. Once I get home, I start messing around with the wiring. The bike wouldn’t crank. The solonoid would click and if I was lucky, the motor would turn super slow. Good news was the motor had decent amount of compression. I start ordering parts, ignition switch, coil, starter solenoid etc. Once I was in front of the computer, I decided to decoy the VIN. I shortly found out this bike was no FXRS “low glide”. Turns out this bike is a FXRT Sport Glide. A bike once hated by the public for looking “too metric”is now a “club choice”. FXRTs complete with big fairings are very desirable. I had a diamond in the rough in my hands. Stay tune this bike is about to go for some Mayor surgery
