Connecting with your Biker Brethren

Saskatchewan, Canada

There is something uniquely special about taking to the open road on your Triumph or your Harley which only fellow enthusiasts can appreciate. The freedom, the power, the feeling of being an extension of your machine and that you could ride all day in this world you have all to yourself. You can go fast in a car, but you’re cocooned in a metal box.You can feel the wind whipping through your hair from the back of a galloping horse, but the horse can’t keep going for mile after mile – and having a mind of its own, it may buck you off somewhere along the line! If only like-minded people can appreciate the joys of motorcycling, then why not get out there and make some connections with your spiritualkinsfolk?

Clubs

Belonging to a club has been the obvious way to connect with people for many years now, and is still as popular as ever. You can meet up with people over a coffee, have a rally, go to a national event together, take a road trip; it’s the perfect way to get to know folk from your local area that shares your passion. Clubs will have websites where you can connect with people who live further afield and find out about events taking place across the country. If you don’t already belong to a club, it’s a great way to get started if you’re new to the area or new to riding motorcycles.

Reaching out

Beyond your own location and even beyond the state or country you live in, there is a world full of enthusiasts eager to discuss the intricacies of 1950s Indians, compare the qualities of Yamahas and Kawasakis and share their knowledge of riding and touring by motorcycle. You can search online for forums, web-based interest groups, Twitter hashtags and videos uploaded to YouTube. You can connect with anyone who sounds interesting and find people who can help with a specific problem you have, recommend sources for hard to find parts and connect you with even more great people.

Get them to come to you

If you’ve shot some awesome footage of a road trip, or filmed the entire reassembly of your Norton engine, why not upload the results to YouTube? When you want to edit your film, you can find great software tools online which can help you make your film look more professional. You can even create a YouTube banner to give your page an eye-catching look. People who find your video can comment on it and start a conversation, and if you have a lot of interesting footage, you can set up your own YouTube channel. If you want to share your expertise and experience, you could set up your own social media page. Facebook is the most widely-used platform, and creating a fan page is very straightforward. You can include plenty of detail, photos, and videos, and make connections with your fans.

The world is so huge, and yet with modern communication methods you can chat to anyone in any part of the globe about the most precise of special interests, and what better way is there of sharing your passion than connecting with others who share it too?
