Ride The Serpent, A 204 mi (328 km) Ride Through Push Mountain, Arkansas

Push Mountain Road or Hwy 341 is known locally as the Serpent because it snakes through the beautiful Ozark National Forest. The loop in this route is 204 mi (328 km) of scenic motorcycle riding that should take about a half-day or 4.5 hours to complete.

Push Mountain is known for its curves and drop-offs and boasts the best road quality by motorcyclists in Arkansas. Although watch out for gravel after a rainstorm.

Bikers find themselves grinning ear to ear on this one as they would on any road with the word 'mountain' in the name.

Directions

From Harrison take Hwy 62 through Yellville towards Mountain Home.

From Mountain Home take SR-201 south to SR-341 until it comes to a dead end at Hwy 14. Go west (right) to Harriet. Then turn left onto Hwy 27 and follow it to Hwy 16 in the direction of Witts Spring and Ben Hur.

From Hwy 16 take Hwy 7 north back to Harrison to complete the loop!

Harrison is a small town of 12,994 people but offers a variety of activities. There are golf courses and canoeing, attractions like biking and hiking on the Ozark Mountain. You can try horseback riding along the Buffalo River or stroll through Harrison's Downtown historic district.

Mountain Home, AR is rated the second city in the nation for hunting, fishing, and trapping. Also in the area you'll find some creeks that have boat access like Dodd Creek, Hicks Creek and Fall Creek.

At the end of the loop near Hwy 7, you may want to check out the Dog-patch: an abandoned theme parkbetween Harrison and Jasper(known today as Marble Falls).

While you're there, check out The Hub, the largest motorcycle resort in the area. It caters exclusively to motorcycle crowds with a 50 unit motel, free WiFi in every room, Scooters Restaurant, a convention center, and a game room.

An alternate route

For an alternate route that's a little less technical than Push Mountain, head over to Mountain View, located south of Mountain Home.

From Mountain Home to Mountain View, turn right (north) on Route 9 to Melbourne. This alternative route contains LOTS of twists and turns. The open vistas are not as outstanding as Push Mountain, but on the weekends, it'll be less crowded.

For more, continue back up to Push Mountain north on Route 9 from Melbourne to Salem, and turn left onto Hwy 412 to Harrison. If you're a squid, be careful. Every year someone overrides his/her capabilities and goes off the side of the mountain.
