The latest in ABS - The anti-lowside system

Intriguing news this morning. The new 2014 KTM Adventure 1190/R will be the first motorcycle in the world to feature Bosch's Motorcycle Stability Control (MSC) which promises to work even when the bike is leaned over.

In development for over two years, it's also touted as being the smallest and most advanced ABS system ever. According to Bosch, the benefits include:

  • MSC can prevent the wheels from slipping when braking while leaning over

  • MSC minimises the righting motion of braking while leaning over

  • MSC prevents rolling over in emergency stops

  • MSC prevents rear wheel skids when accelerating while leaning over

  • MSC prevents the front wheel rising while accelerating

Shipping in December 2013 (and I'm assuming that's a european date), riders of the 2013 1190 Adventure shouldn't feel out. They can have the system fitted to their bikes, though no date on that yet.

If it works as designed, this could be a huge safety improvement in the wet and for those riders who get a little "happy" in the twisties.
