Breaking news: Single-rider motorcycles can now use HOV lanes in Ontario, government says
Changes to Ontario's HOV laws regarding motorcycles are now in effect!
Solo motorcycle riders are now able to use Ontario's network of high occupancy vehicle (HOV) and toll lanes.
Ontario currently has HOV lanes on Highways 403, 404, 417 and the QEW, and access to them has been previously restricted to certain types of vehicles carrying at least two people.
As of today, June 14th, 2019, changes to Ontario's HOV laws regarding motorcycles are now in effect. It is now legal in Ontario for a single-rider motorcycle to use the HOV lanes. Previously a rider needed a passenger to utilize the HOV lanes on the King's & 400 Series highways.
The government of Ontario will make the official announcement once the MOT (or Ministry of Transportation) has a chance to communicate with all the appropriate agencies and change the signage. The official announcement is expected July 1st, 2019.
