CA-127 From Salton to Joshua Tree National Park, Mojave and Death Valley, South California, US

This epic motorcycle ride starts along the east shore of the beautiful Salton Sea surrounded by mountains and desert. The Salton Sea is the largest lake in California, formed by a flood in 1905 when water from the Colorado River flowed into the area.

Take Box Canyon Road towards Joshua Tree National Park. This great motorcycle road has perfect cruising book-ends and offers a tasty middle of twisty roads and beautiful scenery. You'll make your way through Joshua Tree National Park: 1,235 square-miles (3,200 km2) of deserts, Joshua trees and hills of bare rock. Some of most popular chill activities at the park include hiking, climbing, scrambling and even bird watching (bikers bird-watch too).

When you reach the Mojave National Preserve, you're in the Mojave Desert of San Bernardino County, California. Its natural features include the Kelso Dunes, the Marl Mountains and the Cima Dome (one of the largest forests in the world). There's also a few volcanic formations such as Hole-in-the-Wall and the Cinder Cone Lava Beds worth a visit.

Heading north towards Death Valley,you'llbe in the lowest and driest area in North America. Impressive landscapes are jam-packed with beautiful sand dunes and rugged canyons.

The best time to ride is winter because temperatures hit 70-90°F (20-30°C); in summer temperatures can hit 120°F (49°C)! Not many gas stops around so be prepared.
