Great Pennsylvania Road - Wykoff Run

Distance: 16.0 Km / 10.0 Mi Duration: 00:24:34

There are some roads that are just made for bikes. The Wykoff Run road is one of them.

We started at the Willows Motel and Restaurant on PA 120. While it's not much to look at it, it serves some of the best Clam chowder I think I've ever had. It's also quite possibly the first restaurant I've found that doesn't exist on Google.

You'll start off by crossing the Sinnamahoning Creek on a grated iron bridge before passing a few houses. Once you hit the railway line the road starts in earnest. Running about 9.5 miles (about 15 km) alongside the Wykoff Run (basically a small creek) it connects PA 120 with the Quehanna Highway. In between, there are no intersections and only a single house. On a slightly overcast Thursday a week before Memorial day, we have the place quite literally to ourselves.

The scenery is lovely, not that you should be looking at it too much. Forest lines either side of the road with the Wykoff itself on your left side as you climb a very gentle slope.

The road itself isn't too technical. It mostly fairly tight but sweeping corners. There's no a decreasing radius turns in this direction and for the most part the surfaces are very good indeed. You can really open the throttle and enjoy this one, building momentum as you go. It's a great road for building the confidence.

You're only real concern is cars coming the other way. We didn't see any, but they'd have to be pitifully lazy to cross the centre line here so as long as you are in control, you should be fine.

Unfortunately, it's also rather short. Before I knew it, I'd reached the other end. No matter. The parking lot at the top provides an easy place to turn around and go again. Heading the opposite direction is slightly more technical. It's downhill (slightly) and one or two of the turns do tighten up. Take your time and you'll be fine - It's not that difficult. Just ask Marina - the smile on her face is after she did it.

If you're down that way, it's worth heading over simply for a run in either direction. And if you can't make it, check out the ride footage we took

@alex Wow what an awesome ride, so many twisties but best of all I only counted 4 cages traveling in the opposite direction (plus a stationery one). Enjoyed your video footage, felt as though I had been immersed into your adventure. Actually reminded me of the road through the Royal National Park in south Sydney ( but minus the occasional ocean views).Â
