After 70 Years, The Scout Returns To Indian

STURGIS, S.D. - On Saturday,Indian Motorcycle unveiled the 2015 Indian Scout at Sturgis, marking the first time in over 70 years that a completely new Scout model has been in the company's lineup.The 2015 Indian Scout is available for ordering now, and it is expected to arrive in dealerships in late 2014. Pricing begins at $10,999, and color options include black and red, along with matte finishes in silver and black.The Scout is a new design for the middleweight cruiser class, and it weighs in at 558 pounds wet. It has a rigid cast aluminum frame and a low 25.3-inch tall leather solo seat. Those elements encompass Indian's new liquid-cooled, 69 cubic-inch V-twin engine, which Indian says produces 100hp. Closed-loop fuel injection and drive-by-wire throttle actuation give the six-speed Scout a maximum torque of 72 ft./lbs. Engine design cues pay homage to the Scouts of the 1920s, '30s and '40s.Another nod to the past is the ‟rigid triangle” design, which is paired with coil over monotube rear shocks.The Indian Scout's long history includes a role in World War II and numerous racing accomplishments, including the land speed record set by Burt Munro in 1967.‟Over the course of 30 years of countless innovations, racing wins, world records and industry firsts, the Scout has earned its reputation as a versatile, multifaceted bike that appeals to just about every rider and every riding style, with superior handling, balance, performance and craftsmanship,” said Steve Menneto, VP of Motorcycles for Polaris Industries. ‟Our designers and engineers have taken that heritage and those characteristics and fused it into the 2015 Indian Scout, and we think just about everyone who rides this incredible bike is going to feel like it was built just for them.”Sturgis Motorcycle Rally attendees can test ride the Scout at the Indian Motorcycle Demo Experience, which will run through Aug. 9.From a press release.
