Iannone Faster than Rossi on Ducati

Moto2 Firebrand Andrea Iannone got some tongues wagging as he set a lap during a Mugello test  onboard a Ducati GP12 that was faster than that achieved by Valentino Rossi during this year's MotoGP.

Iannone was taking part in the 3 day test which seemed to be his chance to impress upon the Ducati factory why he should be part of the two seat junior team to be run by Pramac next year.

Iannone's lap of 1:48.3 would have put him 10th on the grid in this year's race and faster than Valentino Rossi by 2/10ths.  Admittedly Nicky Hayden and Hector Barbera managed faster times still during the Italian MotoGP but Andrea's time was within a second of pole position.

Pretty impressive stuff from the always exciting racer who still, at least mathematically, is capable of taking the Moto2 title.

"I lapped in 1'48.3 today (Thursday) and my feeling with the team and Ducati was great but this bike isn't easy to ride. I wasn't expecting this kind of lap time so I'm quite happy. Filippo (Preziosi) was satisfied because it was the first time that I really got to work with the team."

Its not clear when Ducati will announce their junior team and whether Iannone will be in it.  Ben Spies is widely rumored to also be joining the team which will have near factory equipment.
