Wet weather riding…

I want to do some posts on riding in the rain (because I think we're going to have a lot more of it this year), but I don't have the time just yet…  So instead I'll just post this video of a Gymkhana pro doing his stuff in the rain.  Yes, you have less traction in the wet, but only a little less…  Most (street) riders' fear of the wet is overblown.  Racers don't like racing in the rain because they don't get to practice in the rain, and as conditions change, so do brake points, turn points, lines…  But for street riding and commuting, riding in the rain is just a part of knowing how to ride well.  I'd never trust a sport car driver who didn't enjoy driving in the snow; driving in the snow is a mark of a driver who know's what he (or she's) doing.  In the same way I might go so far as to say: riding in the rain is the mark of a rider who knows what he/she's doing…  All the principles of good riding stay the same; traction is reduced by just a few percent… there are other additional difficulties caused by the rain (e.g., even though traction is still pretty high on clean asphalt, slippery stuff like oil or manhole covers are ten times more slippery), but these can be easily dealt with.  Anyway, enjoy the vid - I wish I could ride like that - and see you with a better post soon…
