A Freezing Friday the 13th in November

Depending on the weather, every Friday the 13th, thousands or even tens of thousands of riders throw a leg over and head down to a small beach town called Port Dover, Ontario, just 80 miles east of Buffalo, New York for a meet up. On a warm summer's Friday the 13th, expect hundreds of thousands of riders. Packed.

Last Friday, November 13th, 2015 it was cold and cloudy with forecast rain and the last of three 'Friday 13ths' this year. I decided to take the 2-hour trip over to get a glimpse of who was crazy enough to ride in frigid temperatures and grey skies.

Even with the sun out it was cold. My hands were freezing until these gentle bikers went out of their way to offer me a couple of packs of hand warmers. Thanks you guys.

To my surprise, hundreds of bikers showed up with more riding in every hour. As with every #PD13 there's always the weird and wonderful of motorcycle culture warming me up inside.

Getting on a bike and riding in the cold is like a huge badge of honour. All weather riding and freezing a few fingers off is just part of the what makes it real. Once you get there, Port Dover doesn't offer much save the opportunity to meet a lot of super friendly bikers, a regular tasting coffee and a diner-style lunch (noth'n fancy) .

But it's not about the destination, it's about the journey to arrive. Cold and high winds still managed to draw riders from all over Canada, Michigan, New York for the ride-in.

Harleys have always dominated PD13 but, don't be mistaken, it's an inclusive ride-in. I spotted all kinds from Hondas, to Victory to BMWs, KTMs. This time I spotted a new-sh looking Ural with side car, that's the kind of bike I've seen guys ride all winter!

Next year, there's only one Friday the 13th. The #61st, Friday the 13th in Port Dover will be, May 13, 2016. Arrive early and expect a massive crowd. Enjoy the ride.
