Syracuse Super Swap

I took a drive to Syracuse on the weekend to take in the Syracuse Super Swap. Billed as the ‟Largest Motorcycle Showcase and Swap Meet Under One roof in the North East” it was definitely a sight. http://www.syracusesuperswap.com/defaultSYR.htm

This was my second trip to this event and it does not disappoint. I went this year looking for some specific items in mind as I want to turn this...

The Super Swap is a very interesting event. It is part swap meet for sure, but also it is also very much a gathering of motorcycle enthusiasts, motorcycle clubs - both outlaw and not - and folks looking to make a buck or two while helping out their motorcycling brothers. In attendance and wearing their colours were a number of Motorcycle Clubs including the Hells Angels, The Punishers, The christian bikers from the Biker Church in Ottawa, and the BoozeFighters. To be sure, this was an interesting mix of bikers who followed the rules as laid out on the back of the ticket for the event.

Now I thought that seeing the Boozefighters in attendance was kind of a neat thing. For those that are not familiar, the Boozefighters are one of the first Motorcycle clubs ever created. The Boozefighters MC was formed in 1946 by veterans fresh out of World World II. "Wino" Willie Forkner (deceased 1997) is recognized by the club to be the founder. The BFMC were at the renowned Hollister incident of July 4, 1947,which was immortalized by the movie The Wild One, starring Marlon Brando. There are even a couple of chapters in Canada including Chapter 77 in London Ontario.http://www.bfmc77.com/

I spent about 4 hours at the event, poring over the plethora of parts, and managed to pick up some good finds including a peanut gas tank, blacked out headlight and tail light, rear brake caliper, and some bungs to weld into my frame. I had my eye on a sweet narrow glide front end but by the time I had decided to go back and buy it, it was gone (I was bummed).

All in all this is a great event. The prices are incredible (way better than ebay), you can find just about anything, the people are friendly and helpful, and there is even a bit of a bike show with both custom and vintage bikes.

I have made this an annual event (at least for the last two years) and I think that I will continue to do so in the future. It is a must visit for the wrenchers here.

Prices were anywhere from 30-50% cheaper than ebay. For example, the tank I got I paid $85 for. On ebay the exact same tank is going for $159. Same with the headlight tail light combo. I probably saved $70 bucks. Mostly american bikes - actually mostly Harley.

As for your hardtail, I can only say "it's about time" as my kidneys still tingle and the thought of it. Mind you, it only really needs a sprung-seat to remove that problem...

Was it only american bikes? I can see there's at least one Honda there, but it mostly looks like a v-twin festival.

OK, I had no idea that the Boozefighters were the first ever motorcycle club - where did that name come from? So you're rebuilding the Hardtail?! Is it the one Alex took a ride on? http://eatsleepride.com/c/10286/alex_riding_pauls_hardtail_custom Whatever you do it will look amazing just like your other bikes. Looking forward to seeing the finished beaute. By the way, when you say prices were incredible - like 50% less than you'd find on eBay type of thing?
