Sunday In The Highlands

Distance: 312.5 Km / 194.7 Mi Duration: 04:35:39

This is a great weekend day ride, I started it from Oshawa but obviously if you're anywhere near the GTA this will work nicely. High points are passing the Peterborough Lift Lock, the largest hydraulic canal lock in the world, the beautiful little town of Buckhorn (to reach town, turn left on Lakehurst Road which isn't shown in this map. There's a pub there that's usuallly of bikers, and Highway 507, a great twisty route.

The ride back will take you through small towns and generally nice roads back to the 401.

Enjoy the ride, and remember that cops love 507.

Love this area. Anything up in the highlands is beautiful territory. Starting to see much more traffic though, as the MTO has been improving highway surfaces. Good news is a more comfortable ride. Bad news is more two-tonne friends to ride between...

Lalune, it's a dead-easy route, to be honest. The only part that a regular GPS wouldn't take you on is the River Road stretch from Peterborough to Lakefield. Program your GPS to take you to Trent University, when you're there follow the signs for Otonabee College but don't make the turn into the college itself, just stay on Nassau Mills Road which turns into the River Road. Then set GPS for Buckhorn and then Gooderham.

Ah, I saw Deep Bay Road... I was on a bit of a tight schedule after visiting friends in Buckhorn so I didn't explore further north - but next time I'll definitely take that into consideration. As for next week ... who knows what the plan is yet. Which day are you heading there, maybe I'll tag along since you're passing my way.

I'd add to this - just north of Norland, take Deep bay road up into Minden. From there, the 121 to Haliburton and back down to Gooderham. It adds maybe 40-60 minutes, but it's some of the best roads I've found out there. I think we might even hit that next weekend so maybe we'll see you out there?

Awesome route, looks like a really good day of riding. I'm going to do this one to get myself ready for Laconia. Thank you for posting it!
