Manitoba: Flat out fun
Manitoba is an enormous and sparsely populated prairie province whose skies are as wide as the smiles of its welcoming citizens. Beware, the motorcycle riding season here is short here. Photo credit: Pop Snap
This great motorcycle route out of Brandon tours you around the so-called northwest region (in fact, it’s not even halfway up the province, the northern part of which is almost entirely uninhabited, trackless wilderness with 110,000 lakes). It runs you through Riding Mountain National Park and some of the best nature in the accessible part of the province. Photo credit http://www.parklandtourism.com
Where to stop
You’ll head up to Dauphin, through the appropriately named Riding Mountain’s boreal forest and Clear Lake via Wasagaming. This is fine country for stopping and inhaling it all in. Southbound to Glenboro, you can canoodle with Sara the camel in Manitoba’s only desert. Yes, we’re talking mountain, lake and desert, all in one short route. Along the way are plenty of fuel, food and sleeping possibilities.
This Manitoba moto-touring website has multiple routes (including the two suggested here). It’s well worth checking out http://www.rivercityrides.ca
