Baie-Comeau to that Huge Crater, Quebec
Distance: 309.6 Km / 192.9 Mi Duration: 03:53:29
From Baie-Comeau north along highway 389 to Relais-Gabriel is remote and wild, well-forested and decidedly lacking in civilization. The end of the ride brings you to the Manicouagan Crater, one of the oldest known impact craters and is the largest 'visible' impact crater on Earth. This is your unique opportunity to take a great ride and behold a 100km-wide, donut-shaped crater of Lake Manicouagan up close.
The roads get washed out so definitely stop for those. Gravel is plentiful here, so do be prepared, tire-wise. Photo credit alavigne.net
This is how you get to the Trans-Labrador Hwy from the Quebec side of the country. Don’t forget to report back and tell us how you liked it – if you get out alive. That’s some elemental impression-leaving by our universe.
Where to stop
Fishing is amazing, so bring your gear. Though info is sketchy, gas seems to be available along Hwy 389, as are hotels and food. But the riding is slower than it looks, so plan for a couple of days and take some extra fuel just in case.
