Riding over crappy roads…

Here's a quick post: I want to link to the article "Why wearing jeans on a motorcycle is a really bad idea."  Beware, it's proobbaabbly NSFW. Nothing risque, but there are some pics of road rash from a slow crash riding through local streets.

The reason I point this out is: riding around New York means riding over some of the crappiest roads in the developed world.  Roads in LA can get kind of greasy on the two days it rains over there, but that's nothing compared to the constant grease and gravel fest that is NY roads.  Which is why you absolutely have to do TWO things: ONE, whenever you can't see the road surface ahead, just go ahead and assume that it's crapped up with dirt and gravel and oil, and those annoyingly slippery metal plates…then ride accordingly… because in NYC, your assumption will usually be correct. And TWO, dress accordingly.  If you buy a set of Kevlar lined jeans, they might be the ugliest pair of jeans you own… But they'll save you some skin in a low speed crash.  Cheers!
