Horrific Superbike Race for Kawasaki - Tom Sykes Sets Kawasaki On Fire

Sunday, July 22, 2013 - World Superbike (WSBK) racer Tom Sykes #66 riding for Kawasaki is not new to pole position. He was on his way to his 7th pole in Moscow at the World Superbike Championship this past weekend when mechanical failure set his Kawasaki ZX-10R on fire in race 1. Race 2 was cancelled due to the crash and later death of Andrea Antonelli -also riding for Kawasaki.

Superbike champion Sykes was having a bad day. Not only did he stall the ZX- 10R at the starting line, but after gaining 4th place in race 1 at Moscow, had a dramatic engine fire. The Brit didn't finish the race, dropping out on lap three.

Another tragic loss to the Kawasaki Racing Team in Moscow this past weekend

This weekend, Moscow race track claimed the life of Andrea Antonelli, killed in horrific 250 km/h crash. Antonelli was racing in the Supersport races in Moscow. The 25-year-old died after being struck by another rider on the opening lap of the Supersport event which went ahead despite torrential rain conditions.
