Three Week Ride To Big Sur

Nanaimo, Canada

I spent three weeks along the beautiful coasts of Oregon (route 101) and California (route 101 and Pacific Coast Highway 1).

My one day through Washington State consisted of rain, and more rain with one incident of bad gas where I had to stop, siphon the bad out and put the good in.

I spent a week touring Oregon's coast making frequent stops and taking pictures. I had planned on camping but did spend two days in a Yurt in Brookings, OR.

Humboldts Redwood State Park was incredible! I rode The Avenue of The Giants (hwy 254) a couple of times. This 31 mile breathtaking ride is a sure bucket list candidate.

The Northern California coast was incredibly beautiful even with the fog and cold mornings. Gas stations are a rarity along this stretch and if you ride a bike with a 3.1 gal tank as I do, it gets interesting. Having a quart bottle of has pulled me out running out once.

I got really turned around in Frisco, and ended up in places I would rather not have but once I was on my way to Pacifica all was well.

I stayed in Santa Cruz and made a some day trips to Monterey and Big Sur, two beautiful spots.

My return trip was 101 to Reedsport, Or to Eugene on hwy 38 and then I-5 to the Canadian border.

This trip was my first long bike ride and since it was by myself, made it even more special.
